With some 20 years of planning experience gained in Local Government and private practice, Andrew brings a wealth of specialist planning knowledge to D&M Planning's clients.

Building on a degree and postgraduate diploma in town and urban planning, Andrew's career has included roles such as Development Control Manager in a Surrey Planning Authority. Over the years, he has dealt with development proposals and cases of varying complexities - from urban and contemporary projects to those concerning Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas.

Andrew has extensive expertise in site appraisals and design briefs, which resulted in him obtaining planning permissions for a significant number of residential schemes for clients. He also successfully advised on an array of planning matters including enforcement cases, Listed Buildings and schemes relating to Conservation Areas. Andrew is highly experienced in a wide range of planning applications (both in terms of their preparation and determination), from household extension applications through to major redevelopment schemes.

A recent planning success, of particular satisfaction to Andrew, has been obtaining planning and Listed Building Consent for the change of use and extension to the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Undershaw), a Grade II Listed Building, to a school for children with learning difficulties. The building had stood empty for some 10 years, however, obtaining permission proved far from straightforward. After dealing with a potential call-in from the Secretary of State and then a High Court challenge, permission was finally granted and the school opened within an exceptionally well-restored building, much to the relief of the children, their parents and school staff.

In his spare time, Andrew and his family enjoy a variety of outdoor pursuits including skiing. He is also a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Chartered Town Planner.
